Hello, my system has two zones and zone 1 is split into two legs(not sure why). one leg does half the first floor and other does the other. There are two main feed ducts for the first floor and in one is the "boss" Ultra Zone damper and the other duct is the "slave" or so they are labeled. There is only one thermostat for the first floor, so why two dampers?
I noticed the AC running alot and now I know why- the slave zone is trying to do all the work. The position of the arm coming out of the box is rotated in while the others are out. So I guess the damper is dead. Can I remove it and cover the hole until I get a new one?
The control is a EWC-ST-2D and the connections seem to be correct.
Thanks
Lakeguy

Yes you can remove the damper , just cover the opening. It sound like you should just replace the motor. It sound like its a model MAN, come with directions.

Thanks for agreeing. That's what I did. I couldn't find and markings on the blue cover and I don't have a 1/16" allen wrench so I could look inside. But I'm good for now.

Sara, I could not find the marking you mentioned. Their is a number 4899 stamped above ULTRA-ZONE.
I replaced the damper motor today but no change--blades are still closed. The directions say the motor is set to the closed position so that's the way I set the linkage arm. I'm getting 24 volts to the motor. I checked continuity between the wires on the motor to the panel and all is good. ???

Re: Boss motorized damper not working-slave is
Sara, I do not have the panel you mentioned. I have a EWC ST-2D.
I have two dampers for the first floor(#1 and #2) and one damper for the second floor(#3). They are arranged in a "T". #1 duct goes left, #2 duct goes right and #3 comes out the middle leg.
#1 is always closed regardless of heat call/no heat call
#2 is always open even when call is for #3 only
#3 is open when #3 is calling and closes when first floor is calling.(as it should)
In a no call situation, #1 closed,#2&3 are open.
I tried shorting #4&5 per instructions but #1 is still closed and likewise #2 is still open when #5&6 are shorted.
As I said earlier I replaced #1 and nothing changed.
Do I have a quirky panel?
Pls let me know if you need more info.
Thanks
