I have a EWC-ST-2E, zone 2 isn't working

Post by dzhorwath »

Hello,
I have a 2 zone system. Zone 1 is for the main floor, Zone 2 is for upstairs bedrooms. The second floor is cold (56). I purchased 2 new thermostats. The wiring was very easy (the electrician that wired my house labeled every wire). The second floor has wires, also fool proof (3 color coded & marked wires). The 2nd floor t'stat is calling for heat, but the furnace won't fire. When the 1st floor calls for heat, everything works fine. I turned the 1st floor t'stat down to 60, turned the 2nd floor up to 80 and the furnace wont kick on. It looks like the control panel (EWC-ST-2E) may have a problem. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks

Dave,

Does your new thermostat in zone 1 have separate o and b terminals because that is required in zone 1?

No, it has a B/O. Is this the issue? The upstairs damper isn't opening. The light is red. I'm going nuts trying to find the correct t'stat. Can you suggest one so I can look at the wiring?

Dave,
Not having a separate o and separate b terminal is your issue. Below is a list of compatible thermostats for zone one of your system

Honeywell pro 4000/ th4110
EWT 3707
Robert Shaw RS9610
White Rodgers IF95-1271
White Rodgers IF95-1277

Thank you for your help! The damper now opens to heat the upstairs, but the temp down stairs if set at 70 gets to 72. I wish our service man knew more because this is not what I do, nor want to do! Could this be because of where the t'stat is or is this something that is a common thing with set back t'stats? I got the Honeywell t'stats (pro4000) and wired them using the control panel, checking the wire colors matched the correct terminals. The 24v transformer 1 has 2 red wires coming out. One of the red wires is the split to two black wires, one of which comes to the t'stat. I attached that to RC. I didn't use the jumper as advised by the directions or am I mistaken and use the jumper while connecting the red and black wires to the R terminal? Thanks....I'm sorry for being a pest..
