I have an EWC ULTRA-ZONE with 3 zones and 4 dampers. Zone 1 has 2 dampers for the 1st and 2nd floor, Zone 2 has a damper for the basement and Zone 3 has a damper for a room above the garage. All have 3 wires to the actuators from the control box. None have model or serial number info on them.
One of the actuators (#1) died and needs to be replaced (Photo attached).. This actuator is attached to an 8 x 16 x 2 damper.
Problem I'm having is
- all current dampers appear to be at least 4 inches thick and the duct slots for mine at only 2 inches.
- there is minimal duct run above or below the slot for this failed damper so really not enough run to widen the slot to 4 inches
- I've not been able to find a replacement motor/actuator for the damper
- none of my other dampers match the length-width configuration for this failed damper, so a simple swap is not an option.
It seems like the best option might be to replace the failed motor/actuator (#1) with one from a duct where the slot can be "easily" widened and purchase a new unit to replace the one used for parts.
Does this seem like a reasonable approach and something suitable for DYI? What suggestions do you have for me?
Some background - The system was installed in 2001. One of the Zone 1 actuators died about 3 yrs ago and my heating guy (now retired) widened the slot and replace it with a Honeywell ZD12X8TZ damper and M847D-ZONE actuator 24 VAC, 60 Hz 7W.
Thanks much!

Re: Damper actuator swap
This is an older damper that we do not manufacture anymore and there is no replacement motor for this damper you will need to replace the entire damper. The damper you need will be the ND series damper.
