UT-3000 OAS SP 42°F Limit - Needs 55°F Changeover Due to Extreme Electric Rates

Post by woodegg »

Got a challenging situation with a customer in Princeton, NJ that's pushing the limits of the UT-3000's programming capabilities. Looking for any workarounds or insights from those more experienced with EWC controls.

Installation Details:
  • System: Daikin FIT dual-fuel (heat pump + 80% AFUE furnace)
    Control: EWC UT-3000 (V1.85) with 4 zones
Thermostats: Daikin One Touch communicating stats
Install Date: System fully commissioned and operational
    Location: Princeton, NJ (PSE&G territory)
The Challenge:

Done the math on the utility rates - the economic balance point is around 52-55°F, not the typical 30-35°F we usually set.
PSE&G rates:
Electric: $0.296/kWh all-in
Gas: $1.487/therm all-in
Ratio: 6:1 (never seen it this extreme)
Break-even COP calculates to 4.66, which means the heat pump costs more to run than gas whenever outdoor temp drops below ~55°F.

The Problem:
The UT-3000's OAS SP (Outdoor Air Setpoint) maxes out at 42°F in the menu. Can't set it any higher. This means:
Forced to run expensive heat pump from 43-55°F
Losing them $100-150/month in unnecessary operating costs

What I've Already Done:

Optimized everything else:
  • W2 Threshold: 65% (minimum)
    W2 OT Lockout: 60°F
SAS HP Target: Lowered to 95°F
    Zone weights: Maximized
Attempted solutions:
  • Looked for service menus (couldn't find any)
Called EWC tech support (they said 42°F is the limit)
Researched alternative controllers (would lose Daikin integration)
Questions for the Pros:

Has anyone successfully exceeded the 42°F OAS SP limit?
  • Service codes I'm missing?
    Jumper settings on the board?
    Different firmware versions?
Creative workarounds that maintain zone control?

Technical Notes:
  • System communication is stable
    All zones functioning properly
