I recently replaced my 2-zone home HVAC system with the following components:
Oil furnace
2-stage heat pump
Nest stats
BMPlus 3000 rev B control board
EWC dampers
Here are my dip switch settings:
HP (SYSTEM)
DF (HEAT PUMP TYPE)
HC (TSTATS)
O (RV)
OAS (STAGING)
OFF (50% RULE)
ON (SAS)
GAS (FAN)
I am a homeowner, not an HVAC guy, so hopefully I will ask a few questions that make sense to you experts out there.
1. For OAS, I set the temperature to around 38 deg F. So the outside temp right now is 40 deg f. The heat pump (stage 1 heat) turned on as expected, but has been running for some time (nearly 2 hours). Question: shouldn't my oil furnace (stage 2 heat???) turn on after some fixed amount of time if the heat pump has not achieved the desired temperature, or is this mode of operation (heat pump running 100% until desired temperature has been reached) only determined by outside temp?
2. (related to #1) When the system first called for heat as in #1, the W1/B and Y1 LEDs were on. After some period of time (maybe around 30 minutes), the Y2 light came on, and has remained on during this run (again, nearly 2 hours), but the system is still just running the heat pump. Question: should this stage 2 heating be the oil furnace, or is Y2 still the heat pump until the temp drops below what I set the OAS to on the board?
3. From what I understand of my heat pump, the reversing valve is energized in "cooling" mode. While the system is running as described in #1 (heating), the W1/B led is always on. Question: if this led represents the reversing valve is energized, isn't this incorrect as I am heating, not cooling?
4. Despite having an O/B terminal on the Nest stat, I am not using that as I am wiring it up as a simple heat/cool stat and having the EWC board manage all the heat pump and staging issues. Question: is this the correct way to set this up?
I hope my questions make sense. I know what I am trying to ask, but might not be using the right terminology. Please be gentle... I'm just a geeky homeowner with knowledge of how to use Google.

Thanks in advance,
~ fuzzy
