I have a two zone system in a two story house. I have a Trane XL13 heat pump. The downstairs portion runs fine. The upstairs, however, has the fan running continously day and night. The Tstat is in "auto" mode for system, and "auto" (NOT on) mode for the fan also. How do I get the fan out of the "continuous operation" mode? It will cut off if the downstairs calls for heat or cool, but resumes right after that is satisfied. When upstairs calls for heat or cool, it satisfies it, then resumes running the fan continously. It is always on even if I turn the Tstat completely off.
Any help appreciated. Thanks. Sorry, failed to mention "zone 2" and "fan" LED's stay on.
fan runs continously
Re: fan runs continously
It sounds like you either have a short or a thermostat issue that is keeping your fan running. There is no way to tell for sure what it is without taking a voltage reading, also could you let me know what other led lights are illuminated on the zone panel besides the zone 2 fan led.

Re: fan runs continously
Can take voltage reading this evening, but in the meantime, a few more details:
I swapped the two thermostats and the one in question seems to work fine downstairs.
The lights lit up are "zone 2 open" and "fan". The status light is blinking. That's it.
I read in the manual where it says that the unit operates in "continuous fan mode", stopping
only when the system calls for heat or cool. Then, when satisfied, it goes right back to
continuous fan. That is what this appears to be doing. But if that's the case, wouldn't it be
doing it dowbnstairs as well? It is not. It is only doing it upstairs.
What voltage readings would I need to look at?

Re: fan runs continously
you need to take a voltage reading from the C terminal (common) to the G terminal (fan) on the zone 2 thermostat terminal block to see if there is 24 volts present on G. It may be easier for us to work on this over the phone rather than the forum. If you would like to give me a phone call I will gladly help you solve this problem.

Eric,
Thanks for all your help this morning. I tried to return the board myself but both places you referred me to
will only accept a return from the contractor. I'm trying to get hold of him but it's been difficult to get him in the past.
When you haver minute, if you could refer me to someone that will accept a return from a homeowner, I would appreciate
it. the zip code is 76244. thanks.
