MA-ND3
MA-ND3
I have a 2 zone heating system. Just recently, the heating system is having trouble heating to the temperature on the thermostat setting for each of the zones. I have already had a technician come to the house to try and repair it, but he says the furnace is fine. I noticed this morning that one of my MA-ND3 units for the second zone does not appear to move when the first zone cycles. Does that mean I have a bad unit? I shut off zone one and the ND3 unit rotated to closed position, but the zone 2 unit never moved. My system is about 6 years old. Can I get a replacement motor assembly?
Re: MA-ND3
It is possible that the zone 2 motor could have failed.
To test this:
Have both zone one and zone two set to call for heat.
Take note of the zone 2 damper position.
Than satisfy the call on the zone 2 thermostat and look to see if the damper motor has changed positions.
If it didn't, you more than likely have a bad motor.
If it does move, we can try another route of troubleshooting.

Re: MA-ND3
Patrick, Thanks for the response. I did what you suggested and I never saw the damper motor for zone two move. I then went and shut off zone 1 thermostat and turned only zone 2 on and I still did not get any motion. These dampers are connected to a EWC ultrazone unit BMPlus 3000 unit. Is it possible that I could rule out the PC board on the BMplus3000 by switching the wires for the two motors from zone one and vice versa? My other option would be to power off the heater and swap the two motors to see if the problem moves to zone 1.
What would you suggest from here?
Also, what can I do to go about getting another damper motor. From other postings on this site, it sounds like you have been having a lot of problems with this specific model. I understand the MA-ND4 is the replacement. How can I go about getting one of these?

Re: MA-ND3
If you look at the motor terminal blocks on the right side of the board you will see the terminals M1, M2, M4 and M6.
Which of those terminals do you have wires connected to.
If you have wires on both the M4 and M6 terminals you can switch those wires and the motor "should" move to the opposite position.
If it does move than the motor has most likely failed.
A replacement motor can be obtained from a local HVAC supplier in your area. Where are you located?

Re: MA-ND3
I am located in Millersville, Pa 17551.
I assume that you meant if I was to switch M4 and M6, the motor should move. If it does not move, then the motor is bad.
Well, I tried that. I shut off the furnace, switched the M4 and M6 wire on the zone 2, turned the furnace back on, kicked up the thermostat to start the furnace and nothing happened. I am coming to the conclusion that the motor is shot. So, I need to know where I can get another one.
Is there anyway I can be sure that the problem is not the control board on the BMPlus 3000 unit that is sending the signal? When I switched the wires, I did notice that the light on the MA-ND3 unit went from green to Red, so it seems like the control board is not the issue. Any thoughts?

Re: MA-ND3
If your light on the motor changes from green to red but the motor itself does not move you can be sure that the motor has failed.
I would not worry about the BMPlus2000.
Based on the models of the units you named, the motor would be out of warranty.
