UT3000 not operating Honeywell dampers

Post by Rwalsh93 »

Last year, I installed over 25 UT3000 boards on Daikin fit systems with Honeywell zone dampers. Welcome 2025. New UT3000 board will not work with Honeywell zone dampers anymore. This is an awful decision and will prevent the use of your product in the future.

Isn’t damper just dump 24v system? How would it know if it’s honeywell or not?

I thought UT3000 doesn’t care and can control any 24v plain simple dampers

Honeywell dampers will not work with the UT-3000.

COMPATIBLE / RECOMMENDED DAMPERS:
EWC® Ultra-Zone®
Models URD, ND, and SID with MA-ND5 or MA-15S motors.
Spring Type Dampers (2 or 3 wire type) are not compatible due to high current draw!

We appreciate the business! The Daikin/Amana/Goodman side discharge inverter is an incredible product. The UT-3000 hardware change in the fall of 2023 we had to make because of a covid induced supply chain issue was not a decision we took lightly. We did not want to have to stop production of our UT-3000. The product was thoroughly tested with our 3 wire power open power close dampers and worked flawlessly as it always had. We did receive feedback from the field that spring dampers would not operate correctly. These dampers use far more VA than our 3 wire damper. The HW spring dampers pull 8VA while ours uses only 1.5va.

Furthermore, shortly thereafter under Daikin's guidance we built the DAPC to manage excess static pressure to be used with their communicating equipment when zoned. This product modulates non-calling zone to allow for a small amount of leakage to keep static from rising above an undesired level. Only our 3 wire damper can be used, a spring return damper cannot be modulated.

If you are having problems sourcing our dampers, shoot us an email and we'll be happy to help. sales@ewccontrols.com.

That’s a tough break. I’ve had a similar experience with new updates messing with existing setups. Last year, I did a bunch of installs with the UT3000 boards and Honeywell dampers, and everything was working fine. Now hearing that the new version won’t work with the dampers is really frustrating. It’s disappointing when companies change things like that without warning, especially when you’ve built your system around it. Let’s hope they come out with a solution or at least provide some clarity on what to do next.
