Barometric bypass damper & ECM motor

Post by crroda »

My present 10 SEER system has two zones and a constant, single speed PSC blower motor. I am going to change-out the system to a 14 SEER system with an ECM blower motor. Can I leave the barometric bypass damper as is, or do I need to change to a DP sensor? Thanks
Eric K.

You will be able to utilize the existing by-pass damper.

If my contractor is replacing and old 80% AFUE system and I am putting:
Model AMVC960804CN: Amana 2 Stage Gas Heating efficiency up to 96% AFUE Two stage operation for better home comfort ECM Blower. LIFETIME COMPLETE UNIT REPLACEMENT.
Medel ASX16036-1: AMANA High efficiency (16 SEER) “R 410a” outdoor cooling unit, LIFETIME COMPLETE UNIT REPLACEMENT.
Model CAPF4961C: AMANA Furnace mounted indoor cooling/heat pump coil.
Model TXV042: AMANA Indoor coil mounted thermostatic expansion valve.
Honeywell model TH8320UWiFi
Zoning upgrade:
Honeywell 2 zone zoning system. This option will include a Honeywell model HZ322K 2 stage heat/cool main control panel, 2 motorized main trunk dampers (one for the upper
floor and one for the main floor) a barometric by-pass damper, duct sensors, model TH6220D1002 2 stage non-wifi thermostat, duct work and all necessary wiring. Honeywell provides a 5 year parts and labor warranty for zoning systems.
Humidifier upgrade:
Aprilaire Whole Home Humidifier 600

Questios:
1- Is that system configuration correct? or do you see any problems?
2- Does it need a barometric bypass damper due to the two zones?

The most important factor on whether your by-pass is needed, is existing duct condition and CFM, which you do not include. We suggest that you seek advice and additional information from Honeywell and your contractor.
